Major Giving and Prospect Research Workshop
Making smart, data-driven decisions is every bit as important to the success of non-profits as market research has become
to the for-profit world. The question often lies in where to start. Successful major gift fundraising is not about finding the
wealthiest person in your database – it is about focusing your efforts on prospects who have both the wealth and the interest
to make a major gift to your organization and about organizing your activities with the best prospects in a systematic way.
Join APRA President, Michael Quevli, and Senior Consultant, Melissa Bank Stepno, to learn how data and analytics can help
focus your efforts on the right prospects, what a little extra (and easy!) research can do to help, and how the principles of
Prospect Management can be applied at your organization. Whether you’re in nonprofit administration, an executive, or a
fundraiser, you’ll walk away with a clearer picture of how to approach your major giving efforts organization-wide.
Higher Education Workshop
Join us for a networking session exclusively for higher education organizations. We are delighted to invite higher education
organizations to join us in a networking session, where you will get the opportunity to interact personally with your peers at
organizations that are similar to yours as well as Blackbaud representatives who focus on higher education organizations.
This workshop will be a great way to meet people, collaborate on higher education issues, and make connections.
Personal and Professional Development Workshop
Join us for an engaging session on “Powerful Ways to Manage Your Stress and Avoid Burnout” with Marshall Brown,
Certified Career & Executive Coach, as he illustrates how negative stress can wreak havoc on your emotional equilibrium,
as well as your physical health. It narrows your ability to think clearly, function effectively, and enjoy life. Workplace stress
can result from high job demands, real or perceived lack of control concerning those demands, poor day-to-day organization,
inadequate communication, and/or an unsupportive work environment. Why worry about stress? If you, or your staff, are
experiencing headaches, low morale, irritability, sleep disturbances, and/or poor interpersonal relationships, all or part of
that could be due to uncontrolled stress. What’s the bottom line? Devoting proper attention to things that cause stress and
on how to manage your response can help you control and manage your stress reaction. Attend this workshop and walk
away with:
1. Practical tips to identify your stress "points"
2. Exercises to enable you to manage stress more effectively
3. A personal stress management plan
Interactive Workshop
Back by popular demand; join us for Blackbaud’s Interactive Workshop, an exclusive training and networking opportunity.
In this workshop we will be offering three unique sessions that will help you improve how you use your most important
marketing assets. Topics such as peer-to-peer fundraising, website design, email communication and social media will
be discussed:
The Voice: Inspiring Friends Asking Friends Participants to Take Action!
Speakers: Amy Braiterman and Kathryn Hall, Blackbaud
Are you ready to create a communications plan that speaks to different audiences in the way they’ll hear it best? Are you
ready to create a plan to increase participation and revenue?
This is the Voice! In this pre-conference workshop, our team of coaches will help you find your voice. After an initial introduction
on what’s needed to create a multi-channel marketing and communications plan, we’ll break out into small groups. Each group
will be paired with a coach to help you get started building your plan based on your program’s purpose and goal. Next we’ll
identify communication segments; who’s your target audience? Our goal is to find the right message to communicate to
each audience segment.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have built the foundation of or refined your communication plan and know how best to use
the tools like email, social media, one-to-one conversations and group sessions to increase participants, donors and
supporters of your cause. Finding your voice, and having the right message, delivered in the best way can produce stellar results.
A Bag of Tricks for Your Nonprofit Website and Emails

We all know that a website should engage visitors in a way that motivates your audience to take action. But, do you really
know what MAKES a website engaging? In this year’s BBCON design workshop, we’ll teach you the key elements of an
engaging nonprofit website, show you how to spot them, and then let you share your findings in an interactive session!
Let’s all learn from each other, get into the creative spirit, and fill our bag of tricks with the keys to success that every
nonprofits should be aware of. Jono Young, Interactive Design Principal and Kelley Jarrett, Design Market Manager will
lead this strategy and design focused pre-conference jive. We hope to see you there!
Designing Online Engagement to Collaborate with Your Community
Speakers: Amy Sample Ward (NTEN), Sarah Gwaltney, and Frank Barry
You can design online engagement to unleash your evangelists. In this workshop, we’ll focus on all aspects of designing
high-value, engaging, and participatory content that creates a partnership with your fans. A true evangelist is moved to
create, is a seamless co-creator with your organization, and motivated spreader of content. Successful organizations
intentionally design and construct multiple online channels that enable access for all fans and develop paths for relationship
reciprocity and trust, fostering true evangelists.
In this session, we will discuss how co-creation unleashes online evangelists and strengthens cause centric communities,
and help you to do that as well. Specifically, we will reveal the latest research about designing online engagement; highlight
the connection between the theory of relationship ties and online evangelism, and offer examples of organizations with
successful co-creation strategies. Towards the end of this workshop, we’ll work together to design a co-creation strategy to
engage and motivate your online community and evangelists.
